My family was thrown into a whole new world the day my daughter was born. Zoey was the answer to our prayers. After trying for more than a year and the loss of 4, we were finally having our baby. My pregnancy was not an easy one. Honestly, I had so many issues that I was hospitalized and when released put on modified bed rest. But I was making sure that whatever I needed to do for Zoey was done.
On Jan 15th, I decided that I had to go grocery shopping. I had put it off as long as possible and HAD to go. It was at the commissary that my unbeknownst to me, my water broke. I knew I was sweating in January. And I must have looked rough because one of the veterans offered me his seat, and I felt bad enough I took it for a few minutes. I realized that I had to go to the dr. Something wasn’t right. So after I got home and unloaded the groceries (one bag at a time), I called Nick and headed to the dr. This was the one visit that Nick had not gone to. And I had actually encouraged him to not come, I sent him to pick up the nursery furniture that we had just gotten.
My dr said that I was probably just overreacting but would do an ultrasound just to be safe. And he told me ” I have a meeting so I will call you tomorrow to check on you”. So it was a shock to me when the tech left and came back with the dr. first thing he said was “This is not your fault”. Excuse me! What isn’t my fault? I needed answers and all the sudden everyone was way too interested in the ultrasound for my comfort. Seconds later he was on the phone with the hospital notifying them that I was coming. I still didn’t know what was going on but I knew it wasn’t good. Finally he turned to me and said that I needed to go to the hospital. I told him I would go home, pack a bag, pick up Nick, and be there within 30 minutes. HIs response froze me “No! You drive yourself now or I call an ambulance. You have zero amniotic fluid and risk going into labor 14 weeks early.”
