So today I had the Mondayest Monday in a long time. My alarm went off at 3 am like normal during the week. I am NOT a morning person so it takes me a while to wake up and function. I came down to my office in the garage and got ready for the classes of the day. For anyone that doesn’t know, I’m a VIPKID teacher. I teach English online to children in China. I love it. I love that I can enjoy teaching again without the politics and see joy of the kids learning. Plus, I’m able to be there when my own kids need me. I go on field trips, I bring the forgotten items to school, I give cuddles when they come home sick. I’m able to be the mom my kids need. So I get up super early and have 30 minute classes every weekday morning.
This morning was no different. I was at my computer for my 11 classes starting at 4:30. But today I did not get a break. It gets tricky with bathroom breaks and drinks when you get no breaks. So after my 4th class I had 4 minutes to go get a bathroom break and drink. I can do it. I’ve mastered the fast breaks over the past year and half. So off I ran.
This run DID NOT go as planned. I took one step before chaos erupted and Monday slapped me in the face. The cord to my headphones wrapped around my toes and then around the strap of my flip flop. Yes, I know. Not even sure how that happened but it did. So picture the hurried bathroom progress abruptly stopped. One more step and my foot stops. Another step, I start falling down the steps in my garage. By now I’m on my way down. Gravity is not a friend at this moment. I feel the pressure on my other foot ease up but realize I’ve lost that shoe. But I didn’t care. I was more concerned about the concrete floor quickly coming to meet my face. Hands raised I hit the floor and slide across the garage floor. The fall has stopped and I lay there trying to take stock of myself and what just happened.
As I lay on my garage floor, I realized my back hurts (not like crazy but eww pulled muscle). The floor is not the cleanest but laying there I was able to find my shoe clear across the garage. Slowly I sit up and see that the headphones are still wrapped around my foot, broken. Everything on my desk except my laptop is strewn across the floor. AND I still have to go to the bathroom. I hurry as fast as my hurt self will go to see how much time I still have left before class. 2 minutes. That’s right. I fought gravity and gravity won within two minutes. I scoop up all of the parts of my headphones begging them to still work so I don’t have to cancel classes. That worked as well as telling carrots they are gluten free cake. Didn’t happen!
So I begrudgingly cancelled the other classes. Hobbled my behind to my car and set off on my new mission. I immediately head to Bojangles for my sweet tea because momma needed it. (I have bad reactions to most coffees 🙁 ). I find myself at Walmart at 6:30 in the morning buying new headphones.
So job well done Monday. You got me. Your job is done. You can go now. I will just sit here with my new headphones and heating pad.
