This entire page is devoted to the wonderful world we were introduced to with the birth of my daughter, Zoey. My little micro preemie came into this world 12 weeks early sporting one hand in style as a result of Amniotic Band Syndrome. I have grieved, adjusted, celebrated, and learned so much in the 5 years since her birth. I have also had to do it virtually trial by fire. Although there is lots of information out there about amputations, they tend to focus on later in life accidents. I have made TONS of mistakes but feel that I am raising an extremely strong girl that brightens the world simply being a part of it. I have also realized that through the course of this journey many times other parents have been directed to talk to me because I have always been completely open to our new lifestyle and how we adjust to it.
Just a warning, our family has always approached her “disability” with humor and optimism. Some of our humor may seem a little inappropriate (telling people she chewed her arm off) but it is how we deal with it. We decided early to deal with this with as positively as possible. She is amazing and we want her to see the good around her. It is important for her to accept, embrace, and completely rock her nub. So for that goal we joke.
